YOGYAKARTA, Suara Muhammadiyah – Thousands of people accompanied the deceased Muhammadiyah Deputy Chairman, Yunahar Ilyas to his final resting at Karangkajen Burial, Friday (3/1).
Before, the funeral was taken place in Muhammadiyah Headquarter Building (Gedung PP Muhammadiyah) Cik Ditiro and Masjid Gedhe Kauman after the Friday Prayers. Masjid Gedhe Kauman was flooded by people attending the late prominent cleric funeral.
Muhammadiyah Chairman Haedar Nashir also attended the service along with other Muhammadiyah chairmen, Ahmad Syafii Maarif, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs Muhadjir Effendy, Chief of Indonesian Council of Ulama (MUI) Advisory Board Din Syamsuddin, Yogyakarta vice Mayor Heroe Purwadi, and Suara Muhammadiyah Director Deni Asyari.
Muhammadiyah Chairman Haedar Nashir highlighted that the passing of Buya Yunahar was a great loss for Muhammadiyah, Muslim, and also the Indonesians.
“We all have witnessed that ustadz Yunahar is the rare figure of Indonesian cleric. He had deep knowledge and broad insight about Islam, and especially his knowledge in tafsir,” Haedar said.
Yunahar Ilyas was Muhammadiyah Deputy Chairman and a Vice Chairman in Indonesian Council of Ulama (MUI). He also listed as the Suara Muhammadiyah Chief of Editorial Board and Chief of Supervisory Body in Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD) Yogyakarta.
The late figure dies on Thursday, January 2 at 11.47 pm in Sardjito Hospital following his intensive care for his illness. May he be granted a khusnul khotimah. (Riz/Th)
